Opaque Window Clings

What are opaque window clings?

– Our window clings, sometimes also referred to as ‘static clings’ or ‘static window clings’, are a similar product to our window decals in that they are printed onto a thin sheet of blank (white) vinyl material which can be easily applied to a smooth, non-porous surface. Our opaque window clings are a perfect temporary signage solution.
Our custom window clings are window signage products which have been designed and manufactured to be fully customizable, easily repositionable, and extremely simple to install. We craft our custom window clings out of an optically clear vinyl material, thus ensuring seamless display of logos, fonts, and designs without messy installation or removal process.
We print our opaque window clings in full color with high resolution digital ultraviolet ink. This enables us to produce brilliant prints which enable our customers to proudly display a fantastic design for their purposes for only several minutes of installation. While it is important to note that our opaque window clings are not designed to be used on vehicles or other exterior applications, they provide excellent signage solution for many occasions.

Opaque Window Cling Installation Guide

Our opaque window clings are a wet install which means that they require a water and soap based mixture in order to adhere to the designated surface. We have provided the detailed installation guide below, as well as an instructional video one can find on our website.
It is important to note that, for larger designs which are intended to cover entire windows or other large surfaces, it is our recommendation that professional help is employed for best results.

– Before the application of opaque window clings begins, the following supplies are to be gathered to facilitate the process:
– Spray bottle;
– Paper towels;
– Application squeegee (available as an additional purchase with every order at a small additional cost);
– Window squeegee;
– Razor knife;
– Ruler.

– The designated surface for your opaque window cling is to be thoroughly cleaned prior to the installation. It should be allowed to either air dry, or wiped dry with a squeegee.
– The application solution for the opaque window cling is to be created by combining three drops of dish soap with one gallon of water and placed into a spray bottle.
– The designated installation location for your frosted opaque window cling is to be measured.
– The opaque window cling is to be held up to the window in the designated location and a horizontal strip of masking or painters tape is to be applied to the top of the opaque window cling in order to create a hinge.
– The bottom edge of the opaque window cling is to be held away from the window, and the designated surface is to be sprayed with the application solution that has been created in the step above.
– The back liner is to be removed from the opaque window cling, starting from the top corner and going down to the adjacent bottom corner. As the back liner is being removed, the application solution is to be generously sprayed onto the adhesive side of opaque window cling.
– Once the back liner has been completely removed, and both the opaque window cling and the designated surface are wet with application solution, a squeegee is to be used to apply pressure to the front of the cling, adhering it to the window. The squeegee is to be used from left to right and from top to bottom.
– If bubbles or creases begin to develop during this process, the affected portion of the opaque window cling is to be lifted carefully away from the surface and the application process is to be repeated.
– Once the entire custom window clings has been applied to the window without major bubbles or creases, the squeegee is to be ran over entire graphic one more time in order to ensure that the adhesive has firmly attached to the surface.
– Then, the pre-masked transfer tape is to be removed, starting from the top corner and going down to the adjacent bottom corner. If any of the custom window clings begins to peel off the surface during this process, the squeegee is to be used to firmly adhere it back to it, until the pre-masked tape comes fully cleanly off.
– Once the pre-masked transfer tape has been fully removed, the back liner is to be laid over the installed opaque window cling and hard pressure is to be applied with a squeegee. This will remove any air bubbles or creases that may have formed during the application.
– Paper towels are to be used to clean the surface the opaque window cling has been installed on, and to remove any excess water from the edges of the graphic. It may take several days for the adhesive to completely dry and bind to the surface.
– If the opaque window cling goes up to the edge of the designated surface, a razor blade or a ruler can be used to trim the excess material away until the opaque window cling is flush with the edge of the window.

Our opaque window clings are not to be allowed to become exposed to, or submerged in, water or excessive moisture for an extended period of time before the installation. Opaque Window Clings Product Specifications

What materials do we use to produce our clear window clings?

– We craft our opaque window clings out of a clear vinyl material. The material itself is not adhesive. The absence of adhesive glues means that our opaque window clings can easily be installed, removed, and reused. Instead of utilizing adhesive glues, our opaque window clings adhere to the surfaces by utilizing the material’s ability to function as a suction cup instead.

Will any area of the opaque window cling be transparent?

– No. Even if nothing is printed onto the material we use for manufacturing our opaque window clings, it will be opaque. The blank color of the raw material is white. There is no way to use our opaque window clings in places where transparency is required. If one requires transparency, they should refer to either our ‘clear window decals’ or ‘perforated window decals’ page.

Do we offer other types of window decals?

– Absolutely! In addition to the opaque window clings, we also offer clear window clings, clear and opaque window decals, perforated window decals, as well as frosted signage products.
One can find a more detailed explanation of the differences, advantages, and disadvantages among these signage products on our ‘window signage options’ page.

What is the difference between our opaque window clings, static clings, static cling decals, and static cling stickers?

– These terms are mutually interchangeable. Our opaque window clings are able to adhere to any smooth non-porous surface, and they work especially well on glass and plexiglass, without adhesive. Window clings that are able to adhere to surfaces without an adhesive glue installed into the material are traditionally called ‘static window clings’ owing to the myth that static electricity is what enables them to adhere to surfaces.
We have dispelled this myth in our blog post. The other aforementioned terms are also often used interchangeably. As long as our customers understand that these signage products do not have actual adhesive properties, and are transparent when blank, it does not matter which specific term they refer to them as.

How thick are our opaque window clings?

– Our opaque window clings are razor thin. More precisely, they are three millimeters, or zero-point-zero-zero-three inches thick. In other words, they are thinner than a piece of common paper. This extremely thin signage solution provides aesthetically pleasing window signs that are simultaneously clear, durable, and easily repositionable.

What is the lifespan of our opaque window clings?

– With proper installation and care, our opaque window clings can last for three or more years in an interior setting. For exterior settings, depending on the amount of exposure to elements and other factors, the lifespan for our opaque window clings is, on average, three years.

Will exposure to elements ruin our opaque window clings?

– Our opaque window clings are most commonly used inside. While they can be used outdoors, we normally advise against it. If one insists on installing our opaque window clings outside they should make sure to follow the installation manual and remove them before any severe weather. Owing to their ability to be removed and reused easily, they can still be used outdoors.
If one wishes to display their opaque window cling outside but install it on the inside, they may select the ‘inside glass option’ in our online design tool. This means that the opaque window cling will be reverse-printed. The opaque window cling can than be applied to the inner surface of a window and be seen from the outside. This printing method enables the opaque window cling to be visible outside while protecting it from the elements. However, it should be noted that if the window to which an opaque window cling is to be installed on is tinted, it may affect the visibility of the cling.
We do not recommend our opaque window clings to be used on the exterior of any type of vehicle. Our opaque window clings are not designed to be placed on vehicles and will fly off in they are installed there. For this purpose, we recommend our car decals, or magnets.

Can our opaque window clings be cut to shape, or individual letters?

– Absolutely! We can cut our opaque window clings into any shape our customers require.
However, by selecting ‘custom with border’ shape option in our online design tool, it assumes a small border will remain around the edge of the cut, one can customize their opaque window clings to any shape and size. Additional shape options one can choose from for their opaque window clings include square, rectangle, rounded corners (a quarter of and inch radius, or an inch radius), circle, and oval.
If one is interested in individually cut letters for their storefront or home windows, they are most likely looking for our cut vinyl lettering which is a completely different product.

Can one order an opaque window cling with rounded corners, and other shapes?

– Absolutely! Our opaque window clings can be cut in a diverse range of shapes including square, rectangle, rounded corners (a quarter of an inch radius, and an inch radius), circle, oval, custom, and custom with border. This allows our customers to fully customize the shape of their opaque window clings. If one has any additional questions about the various shape options we provide for our opaque window clings, they should not hesitate to contact us directly and inquire further.

What are the minimum and maximum sizes for our opaque window clings?

– Our opaque window clings may not be smaller than three by three inches, and larger than fifty-two by sixteen hundred and eighty inches. As long as the opaque window cling design is kept within these parameters, the options are virtually infinite.

Does incorporating multiple colors in the clear window cling design affect the price?

– We print everything in full color. This means that regardless of the number of colors and shades incorporated in an opaque window cling design, the price will not change. The price of an opaque window cling is determined by their size and quantity.
We also offer bulk discounts that refer to orders of two or more signage products of the same design. One should account for other potential costs, such as shipping and taxes, when applied.

Opaque Window Cling Usage

Will our frosted window signage products ruin glass surfaces they are installed on?

– No, the installation and the removal of opaque window clings will not hurt or damage any windows. The only way for a window to be damaged as a result of using our opaque window clings on it is if the glass is scratched by a metal squeegee during installation. For this reason, we offer a felt-tipped squeegee as an additional purchase with your opaque window cling, at a small additional cost.

What are the most common uses for our opaque window clings?

– The most common uses for opaque window clings can be broken down into two main categories – home and business.
Businesses use them to advertise store hours, sales, and promotions, among other things. Likewise, office establishments use opaque window clings for feature décor, motivational quotes, room numbering, and more. Fleet cars may also use opaque window clings to feature a variety of lettering, including registration numbers, contact information, website, and business name.
Our opaque window clings are also used for home décor – as quotes, house rules, chores, welcomes, etc. – as well as for soliciting, security warnings, and more.

Will our opaque window clings impact the transparency of the glass surface they are installed on?

– Due to the opacity of this particular type of cling, the transparency of the glass surface it is installed on will be affected. Even the blank material we use for manufacturing our opaque window clings comes in a solid white color, which means that it will obstruct visibility, light, and transparency of the surface it is applied to.
Therefore, for darker areas, as well as for those which must maintain transparency through the glass surface, our perforated window decals are a better fit. As we have mentioned above, one can read about these decals in more detail on our ‘window decals’ website page.
Alternatively, large opaque window clings can obscure visibility into rooms which require privacy while still effectively advertising or displaying necessary messages on the other side.

Can our opaque window clings be installed on the inner side of a window and be visible from the outside?

– Absolutely! For this feature, one should select ‘inside glass’ option during the checkout process. We will reverse print the design so that it can adhere to the inside of a window and be visible from the outside ‘the right side up’. This is also possible with our frosted window signage products.
For more detailed explanation of the particular differences, as well as advantages and disadvantages distributed between these decal alternatives, one may refer to our ‘window decals’ website page.

Can our opaque window clings adhere to any glass surface, and be used in any climate?

– Absolutely! Our opaque window clings are best used on glass surfaces and this is what they have been designed for. However, they are also perfectly suitable for the surfaces such as laminate, plastics, stainless steel, aluminum, electronics (TV screens, tablets, computer monitors, etc.). The surfaces our opaque window clings will not adhere to include any type of textured surfaces, drywall, etc.
Our opaque window clings will, for the most part, work equally well in a wide variety of climates. However, it is our recommendation that our opaque window clings are primarily used indoors. By selecting the ‘inside glass’ option in our online design tool, one is able to advertise to the approaching customers by placing the opaque window cling on the inner side of a window. Choosing this approach avoids extremely wet, humid, or frigid weather affecting the opaque window cling, as these may adversely impact its performance and functionality. Outdoor use for our opaque window clings is best done in moderate weather and conditions.

Opaque Window Clings Installation and Care

How does one install our opaque window clings?

Our opaque window clings are a wet install which means that they require a water and soap based mixture in order to adhere to the designated surface. We have provided the detailed installation guide below, as well as an instructional video one can find on our website.
It is important to note that, for larger designs which are intended to cover entire windows or other large surfaces, it is our recommendation that professional help is employed for best results.

– If the opaque window cling goes up to the edge of the designated surface, a razor blade or a ruler can be used to trim the excess material away until the opaque window cling is flush with the edge of the window.

Do opaque window clings require more than one person to be installed?

– Generally speaking, installation of the opaque window clings can be done with one person for smaller decals. For larger opaque window clings, we recommend that at least two people install the decal. This will prevent the opaque window cling from sticking to itself (but if it does then you can still pull it apart) during the process and makes for a much easier squeegee process and overall application of the opaque window cling.

How does one store our opaque window clings?

– If one intends to store our opaque window clings for future use, they need to keep the lining it originally comes with. One can use this lining to carefully put the cling back on, and store in a cool and dry room with a sheet of paper or wax on both sides. If one misplaces the lining, they are to store our opaque window clings flat between sheets of wax paper. Our opaque window clings are not to be rolled or folded as it may cause creasing which is difficult to remove.

How does one clean our opaque window clings?

– Our opaque window clings can be cleaned on a regular basis by using a soft damp cloth or rag. The opaque window cling is to be simply wiped down so that any dirt or dust that may have accumulated is removed. Our opaque window clings are not to be scrubbed vigorously, but gently wiped. Additionally, power washers and strong cleaners should not be utilized as they can damage the product.

How does one remove our opaque window decals?

– Our opaque window clings can be removed by simply peeling it away from the window or surface where it is applied. Because of our opaque window clings proprietary adhesion technology you do not need to worry about any residual stickiness or cleanup that is associated with a typical window decal.

Can the window opaque window clings have been installed on be washed afterwards?

– Yes, washing your windows should not adversely impact your cling. The only exception to this is using any kind of power washer or spray gun directly on the decal. This can damage the cling and cause it to fall off the window. Likewise, using tools such as an industrial squeegee is also not very wise, as it can pull onto the installed opaque window cling or cause the edges of he product to come away from the surface it had been installed on. This can make the opaque window cling eventually peel away from the surface it had been installed to altogether, or simply cause it to have a ragged and very unprofessional appearance.
